Home Staging Tips for Depersonalizing a House

This can be one of the most emotional parts of the home selling process. If you’ve lived in your home for any length of time, you’ve created memories in that place that are reflected in the items on the walls and shelves. Looking at this process with an objective eye will help you get through it with as little stress as possible. We have some home staging tips for depersonalizing your home that may help.

Our homes are filled with framed photographs of friends and family. There are family portraits, images from important events, and snapshots from vacations. While we may enjoy seeing these images on a daily basis, potential home buyers are not interested in seeing our memories in those frames. It’s important for them to see the space as their own. They need to be able to imagine their own photographs hanging on the walls, sitting on the shelves, and pinned to the refrigerator.

Home Staging Tips for Closets

People who are looking at homes to buy are often concerned with storage and closet space. Most home sellers don’t give their closets and storage areas much thought when it comes to staging. Our closets are often a no man’s land of confusion and clutter. We toss in items we no longer use and worn out shoes. They overflow with holiday decorations and clothing from ten years ago. With these home staging tips for closets, you can have your closets and storage areas looking clean and tidy in no time!

You’ll need a clean slate to work with when it comes to the actual cleaning of the closets. Remove everything from the closets. This task may take some time and is best done on a weekend or any other time when you can concentrate on the task until it’s completed. If you have a big job to do, with many closets, you may want to ask family and friends to help you. Assign each person with a closet and set an area as cleaning central for supplies and refreshments. Don’t forget to include the kitchen pantry, entryway closet, bathroom closets, linen closets, bedroom closets, and any other closets in the home.

Home Staging Tips for Kitchens

Kitchens are the first things you’ll hear about when you ask someone what they’re looking for in their dream house. A kitchen can sell a home or keep a home from selling. The importance placed on kitchens is a good reason to take the staging of your kitchen seriously. You want to show your kitchen in the best light possible. These home staging tips for the kitchen should help you get started.

We spend a great deal of time in the kitchen. All of the baking, grilling, and deep frying can leave marks on your kitchen by adding dirt and grease to places you might not consider when doing your usual cleaning. Clean the baseboards, areas under the cabinets, top shelves, areas above cabinets, and stove hoods. Take a look at the sides of your cabinets that are usually hidden by a stove, refrigerator, or other appliance. Clean any tile grout, venting, and ceiling lights. Don’t forget the inside of the dishwasher, refrigerator, and oven.
